Who We Are

Cathy Braxton, Firm Principal

Cathy Braxton is a native Washingtonian attorney with 20 years of legal experience. Cathy has devoted the majority of her legal career to pursuing justice for those who felt as though they had no voice in the legal system.

Her quest for helping the powerless did not start straight from law school. As a new attorney she worked for the United States Customs Service where her focus was customs and international trade law. After several years, Cathy left the federal government and worked for a couple of customs and international trade law firms. While she enjoyed the practice of law, she felt as if something was missing in her legal career. She realized over time that she was representing and interacting with corporations and craved for the ability to really connect with individual clients on a personal level. Because of this, there was no true passion behind her work.

Cathy decided to transition out of corporate law and dedicated her own practice to helping families and children with family law matters including guardianships, adoptions, child custody, child welfare and special education law. Cathy also has the rare distinction of being named a “Child Welfare Law Specialist” by the National Association of Counsel for Children.

Today her practice helps children and families who face a variety of challenges, from special education and family law cases to consumer law. Her consumer law practice concentrates on fighting home foreclosures, helping consumers who have been the victims of abusive debt collectors and illegal debt collections, offering a fresh financial start through bankruptcy or just talking to consumers about their financial issues and options.
